Location
The Andaman Islands are located in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands one of seven Union Territory of India. To the west is the Bay of Bengal and to the east is the Andaman Sea. To the south is the Nicobar Islands. Beyond to the west is India and beyond to the north is Burma (Myanmar).

Prewar
The British government established a penal colony political prisoners from Indian and Africa. Until 1938 the British government used them as a penal colony for Indian and African political prisoners, who were mainly put in the notorious Cellular Jail in Port Blair, the biggest town (port) on the islands.

Wartime History
On March 23, 1942 the Japanese Army 18th Division occupy Port Blair on South Andaman Island without opposition. During 1943, the Allies planned Operation Buccaneer to recapture the Andaman Islands until December 5, 1943 when canceled by the British. By April 1944, the Andaman Islands were within range of U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) B-24 Liberators from the 10th Air Force (10th AF). Occupied by the Japanese for the duration of the Pacific War.

South Andaman Island
Located in the Andaman Islands. South Andaman is the third largest island in the Andaman Islands, measuring 93km long and 31km wide. To the south is Little Andaman Island, to the north is North Andaman Island and to the west is North Sentinel Island.

Located in the Andaman Islands.

North Andaman Island
Located in the Andaman Islands.

North Sentinel Island
Located in the Andaman Islands. Today part of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, South Andaman District. Visitors are forbidden on the island due to the Sentinelese people.
