Location Lat 5° 48' 17S Long 134° 13' 26E Dobo is located at an elevation of 3' / 1m above sea level on the northern coast of Wamar Island to the west of the Aru Island Group (Aroe). Also known as Dobo Town and is the largest settlement in the Aru Island Group (Aroe). Today located in Maluku Province in Indonesia. Wartime History Occupied by the Japanese. Starting in early February 1943 attacked by Allied aircraft until 1944. Occupied by the Japanese until the official surrender of Japan. On May 4, 1943 Reverend Len Kentish was beheaded at Dobo. Formally he was a crew member from HMAS Patricia Cam sunk January 22, 1943 by a floatplane from 734 Kokutai then the crew was strafed while in the sea then landed to capture Kentish and flew him back to the Aru Islands. American missions against Dobo February 3, 1943–April 27, 1943 During October 1945, HMAS Krait under the command of Sub-Lieutenant Arthur Robert "Bob" Chapman accepted the surrender of Japanese forces at Dobo.
