| Location Lat 1° 9' 14S Long 136° 2' 52E Sorido villiage is located on the southern coast of Biak Island. Borders Yapen Strait (Japen Strait) to the south. Connected by the Borokoe Road. To the east is Borokoe (Boroekoe, Borokoe) and Mokmer. Also known as Sorrido, Insirom or Insrom. Wartime History During 1942, occupied by the Japanese. By early 1944, the Japanese constructed Borokoe Airfield at this location. On May 27, 1944 an amphibious landing was made at Bosnik by the U.S. Army 41st Infantry Division. Afterwards, the Borokoe Airfield was expanded and repaired by the Americans and the Borokoe area was developed into a base area to support the Biak Campaign and the nearby airfield operations. American missions against Sorido May 23, 1944–June 13, 1944 Sorido Airfield (Sorido Drome) Built by the Japanese and expanded by the Americans F-5A Lightning 42-13093 Pilot Major Arthur L. Post crashed August 25, 1944 Today Bits of landing craft and remains of docks are still visible in the area. The beach is popular for swimming and diving. Contribute
