Maeda Escarpment (Urasoe-Maeda Escarpment, Hacksaw Ridge, Big Escarpment)
on
Okinawa Island
(Lower left) Ladders and a cargo net that Doss repeatedly used to lower American wounded over the side in a rope litter. For his valor Doss later received the Medal of Honor.
