Location Lat 35° 27' 0N Long 135° 19' 60E Maizuru is located in Kyōto Prefecture in the Kansai Region on the north coast of Honshū in Japan. Borders Maizuru Harbor to the north and beyond the Sea of Japan. American mission against Maizuru and Maizuru Harbor May 20, 1945–August 7, 1945 Maizuru Naval Base The Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) established Maizuru Naval Base in 1901 for use during the Russo-Japanese War and continued to be used until the ened of the Pacific War. Also known as Maizuru Naval Yard. The Maizuru Naval District was based at Maizuru. The Maizuru Naval Arsenal performed repairs and built warships including destroyers Kikuzuki, Kashi, Yugure, Shimakaze and Matsu. Also based the No. 2 Maizuru Special Naval Landing Force (2nd Maizuru SNLF) and No. 3 Maizuru Special Naval Landing Force (3rd Maizuru SNLF).
