Location
Lat 33° 10' 0N Long 129° 43' 0E  Sasebo is located in Nagasaki Prefecture on the western coast of Kyūshū Island in Japan. Borders Sasebo Harbor.

Wartime History
The Sasebo Naval Arsenal (Sasebo Navy Yard) was an important shipbuilding yard and Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) anchorage and base. During 1945 attacked by U.S. aircraft until the end of the Pacific War.

Postwar
During the U.S. occupation of Japan, Sasebo Navy base was used by the U.S. Navy (USN) as a naval base and anchorage and was an important base supporting U.S. Naval operations during the Korean War and is still in use by the U.S. Navy to this day.
