Location
Lat 26°13′45″N Long 127°18′12″E Zamani Island is part of the Kerama Island Group roughly fifteen miles west of Okinawa. Borders Kerama Anchorage to the southeast. To the south is the smaller Amuro Island. Part of the Shimajiri District of Okinawa Prefecture. Also known as "Zamami Jima".
Zamami Town
Located on the southern central coast of Zamami Island.
Wartime History
On March 26, 1945 LSTs landed the US Army 77th Infantry Division, 305th Infantry Regiment at Zamami town and quickly secured the island. One group of 26 Koreans
surrendered under a white flag. The next day, the same force landed on Amuro Island.
