Location Wŏnsan Harbor borders Wonsan and the Kalma Peninsula of the Korean Peninsula. The harbor includes Yo-do Island. Also known as Wonsan Harbor. Today located in Kangwŏn Province in Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK, North Korea). Pacific War During 1910-1945 used by the Japanese. During the Pacific War, used by the Japanese Navy as an anchorage. During July-August 1945 Wonsan Harbor was mined by B-29 Superfortress. American missions against Wonsan World War II and Korean War Korean War During the Korean War, the harbor was heavily mined. During the US Navy mine clearing operations, three minesweepers were sunk by mines during the mine clearing operation: USS Pirate (AM-275), USS Pledge (AM-277) and JMS 14 (ex No.1 class auxiliary submarine chaser). During October 1950, the US Navy made an amphibious landing at Blue Beach (on Kalma peninsula near Wonsan Airfield) and Yellow beach (near to the base of the peninsula) at the base of the Kalma peninsula.
