    Jaluit Atoll  Marshall Islands
Location
Lat 6° 0' 0N Long 169° 34' 60E. Jaluit Atoll is located in southern the Marshall Islands. Includes Jaluit Island forming the southern corner with Jabor at the eastern end with Jaluit Lagoon at the center.

Wartime History
During the Pacific War, Jaluit Atoll was occupied by the Japanese. Starting on February 1, 1942 U.S. Navy carrier aircraft first attacked Jaluit. In the middle of June 1943 U.S. Navy (USN) carrier strikes resumed until late September 1944.

American missions against Jaluit
February 1, 1942–October 6, 1944

Jaluit Atoll was occupied by the Japanese until the end of the Pacific War and the official surrender of Japan in September 1945. During September 1945 the Japanese garrison officially surrendered aboard USS Thornhill (DE-195).
