Wartime History
Occupied by the Japanese. On February 22, 1944 US Marines capture Parry Island,
the last Japanese held island in the Marshall Islands. Afterwards, the island was developed by the Americans. The Japanese built pier was improved
by Americans and used. At the end of the war, it was developed
into a recreation area for 35,000 men.
