Yakovlev Hero Memorial on Baintsagn Hill
Location
Located on
Baintsagn (Bain Tsagn) east of Khalkhin Gol. Also known as M. P. Yakovlev Monument.
Previously at this location was a Japanese memorial to war dead. In 1954, Mongolians errected this monument, dedicated to Michael Pavlovich Yakovlev, commander of the 11th Tank Brigade and a Hero of the Soviet Union (HSU).
This monument includes a large pillar 'double glory beams' symbolizing Soviet and Mongolian friendship an an inscription. Nearby is a pedestal displaying a BT-7 Medium Tank (claimed to be Yakovlev's tank).
Circa 1991, the emblem of the USSR on the pillar is missing or removed.
