Location
Located in eastern Mongolia. Also known as "Bayan Tumen" until 1941. or "Sanbeisu". Later, renamed "Choybalsan" (also spelled Choibalsan) after Marshall Khorloogiin Choibalsan.
Wartime History
During the Battle of Khalkhin Gol (Nomonhan Incident) during May-September 1939, Bain Tumen was used as a staging base for the battle.

Third largest city in eastern Mongolia with a population of roughly 47,000.
Bain-Tumen Airfield ("Leningrad", Choybalsan Northeast)
Located a few kilometers outside town, still in use today. Also known as Bayantümen
Choybalsan Mongolian Hero's Memorial
Large arch with a soldier on horseback charging out of the monument. Displayed at the flanks of the memorial are two vehicles reportedly recovered from the Nomonhan battlefield: BT-5 Tank and BA-10 armored car.
G. K. Zukov Museum
Located in the suburbs about 1.5km northeast of the Drama Theatre and 200m of the main road, the caretaker lives next door. Museum devoted to the Battle of Khalkhin Gol during 1939.
Choybalsan East Airfield
Located on the east side of the town, disused
