Location
Lat 7.8N Long 134.6E The Kossol Roads is enclosed by a fringing coral reef in northern Palau. Also known as Kossol Anchorage or Kossol Passage. To the south is Babelthuap Island.
Wartime History
Prewar and during the Pacific War, used by the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) as an anchorage supported by 3 Base Force. On September 15, 1944 captured by the U.S. Navy (USN) and minesweepers immediately began clearing the area nine days later. By late September, used as an anchorage for warships and transports. Kossol Passage was used as an assembly area for convoys, repairs and as staging area to support other operations in the Philippines including the operations against Mindoro and Lingayen Gulf on Luzon.
