Location Lat 17° 5' 14N Long 120° 58' 32E Bontoc is located at an elevation of 2,860' / 871m in Mountain Province on Luzon in the Philippines. Also known as "Bontoz". Bontoc is the provincial capital of Mountain Province. Wartime History During the Pacific War occupied by the Japanese. Starting in late March 1945 U.S. bombers and fighters began attacking Bontoc until the end of the Pacific War. By the middle of June 1945, the Japanese Army "Araki Force" withdraw from Bontoc southeast to Banaue. On July 10, 1945 the USAFIP(NL) 11th Infantry advanced southward to occupy Bontoc then advanced along Route 4 to the southeast and on July 21, 1945 linked up with the U.S. Army 6th Division, 1st Infantry Regiment at Polis Pass and completed the encirclement of the "Shobu Group" in the last stand area to the south.
