Location The Ipo Dam is located near Norzagaray (Norzugaray) in Bulacan Province on Luzon in the Philippines. Built prewar near the confluence of the Ipo River to supply drinking water to Manila. Wartime History During the 1945 liberation, the Japanese defended the Ipo Dam area from dug in positions. The Americans feared they might poison the water supply to Manila and assaulted the area. As the U.S. Army advanced, supporting artillery bombarded the area. On May 10, 1945 the 43rd Infantry Division advanced on Ipo. On May 12, 1945 they reached and secured Hill 815. The next day elements get within sight of the Ipo Dam. On May 17, 1945 an assault force captures Ipo Dam intact. Two days later, the last Japanese resistance ceased and mopping up is begun. American missions against Ipo and Norzagaray January 14, 1945–June 28, 1945 Tony Feredo adds: "I believe the nearest town to Ipo Dam would be Norzagaray. I have been Ipo dam when I was a young boy, a long time ago. At the VFP Museum (Veterans For Peace Museum) is a mural of the Battle of Ipo Dam, when Filipino guerrillas helped flush out Japanese defenders from their positions in the area. There is film footage of GIs firing bazookas at the entrance of the reservoir." Ipo Airfield Prewar airfield, disused today Contribute
