Allied missions against Cape Gazelle
June 11, 1943–June 16, 1944

January 23, 1943
(5th AF) B-17s attack the airfields at Rabaul and shipping off Cape Gazelle.

February 3, 1943
(5th AF) B-17s and B-24s attack the Cape Gazelle area.

March 23, 1943
(5th AF) B-17's strafe a vessel off Cape Gazelle.

January 6, 1944
(13th AF) P-38's sweep the Rabaul area claiming 9 Zekes shot down during a running battle over the Cape Gazelle area.

January 14, 1944
(13th AF) Twelve B-25's hit Cape Gazelle.

February 17, 1944
(USN) During the night of February 17-18, Task Group 38.4, composed of the destroyers USS Farenholt (DD-491), USS Buchanan (DD-484), USS Lansdowne (DD-486), USS Lardner (DD-487) and USS Woodworth (DD-460) conducted a shore bombardment of targets on East New Britain. At 0137 targeted the Cape Gazelle shore battery (firing 284 rounds) which had opened fire on the formation. At 1:40am opened fire on Cape Gazelle shore batteries, then passed the center of channel between Duke of York Islands and Cape Gazelle.

February 25, 1944
(13th AF) P-39s on armed reconnaissance attack a barge in the Cape Gazelle area.

April 22, 1944
(13th AF) B-25s hit the Cape Gazelle area.

June 16, 1944
(FEAF) B-24s, B-25s, A-20s and fighters attack a large variety of targets of opportunity including Gazelle.
