(RAAF) Twenty-three Beauforts from 6 Squadron, 8 Squadron and 100 Squadron bomb Japanese positions on Kalai.
September 3, 1944
(FEAF) B-25 Mitchells from the 42nd Bomb Group on a low level sweep over Kalai Plantation observed the wrecked wharf, derelict plantation
buildings, and several beached barges which had been destroyed in previous
missions before attacking a tug boat. Small arms fire damaged B-25H 43-4513 that later force landed.

During the morning Beauforts led by a Boomerang bombed and strafed Japanese positions on the northern edge of Kalai Plantation for half an hour.

For the first time during the New Britain campaign, field artillery from the 2/14th Field Regiment opened fire at Kalai Plantation. Afterwards, the 14th Battalion and 32nd Battalion occupied Kalai and found the Japanese had withdrawn. From Kalai the Battalions moved to Kamandram.
