Location Baibara Island is a small island at the western end of Orangiere Bay located just off the southern coast of New Guinea. Also known as "Beri-beri Island". Prewar and during the Pacific War located in the Territory of Papua. Today located in Central Province in Papua New Guinea (PNG). There is a channel for small craft between the island and the mainland. The island is uninhabited, but there are small villages abreast of it on the mainland.
