| Location Eleanora Bay is located on the north coast of New Britain. Borders prewar Linga Linga Plantation. Prewar and during the Pacific War part of the Territory of New Guinea. Today in West New Britain Province in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Wartime History During early 1944, Japanese forces retreated along the north coast past Eleanora Bay eastward after the American landing at Cape Gloucester. Allied missions against Eleanora Bay February 21, 1944– March 18, 1944 On March 11, 1944 U.S. Marines from the 1st Battalion, 5th Regiment made an unopposed landing at Linga Linga Plantation on Eleanora Bay and after a number of successful skirmishes with enemy stragglers.
