Location
Lat 9° 2' 57S Long 146° 46' 3E Hisiu is located on the southern coast of New Guinea. To the south is Redscar Bay. To the east is Galley Reach and to the southeast is Port Moresby. Also spelled Isiu. Wartime spelling "Hisu".
Prewar
Hisu Plantation was located at this location planted with coconut palms harvesting copra. The plantation was operated by Australians and included a plantation house.
Wartime History
On October 11, 1943 American pilot 1st Lt. John S. Lolos who ditched P-47D "Hi Topper" 42-8081 the previous day spent the night at Hisu before being transporte by a PBY Catalina back to Port Moresby.
