Location Hopoi is located on the north coast of New Guinea at the mouth of the Buso River. To the west is Lae. Prewar and during the Pacific War located in the Territory of New Guinea. Today located in Morobe Province in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Prewar The Lutheran Church built Hopoi Mission Station (Hopoi Mission) prewar inland from the coast with Hopoi Airfield built on the coast. Wartime History On September 4, 1943, the Australian Army 9th Division made an amphibious landing at Hopoi, the move eastwards towards Lae. In support of the landings, 5th Air Force B-25s hit the landing area. Hopoi Airfield Wartime airfield P-40N Warhawk Serial Number 42-104???
