    Ladava Milne Bay Province Papua New Guinea (PNG)
Location
Lat 10° 19' 60S Long 150° 20' 60E  Ladava village is located at the western end of Milne Bay on the north coast of New Guinea. Borders Gahora Bay to the west plus Gili Gili Anchorage and Gabugabuna Bay to the south.

Prewar
Ladava Mission was established by the Catholic church at this location.

Wartime History
During 1942, Gurney Airfield was build inland from this location. During 1943 the U.S. Navy (USN) 84th Construction Battalion "Seabees" developed this area into the Ladava U.S. Navy Base with shore facilities at this location.

Today
On the ground is concrete foundations for buildings and wartime roads remain in use.

Gurney Airfield (No. 1 Strip, Fall River)
Built prior to the Battle of Milne Bay, used during the war. Still in use today as the only airport serving Milne Bay

Ladava US Navy Base
During 1943, the U.S. Navy (USN) 84th Construction Battalion "Seabees" began constructing Ladava US Navy Base at this location. The Seabees built roads, piers and jetties bordering Gahora Bay. Also housing for 30 officers and 1,000 enlisted men. On October 21, 1943 they were relieve by the 91st Battalion. Piers, jetties, roads, hospital, electric, communications and housing for 75 officers and 1,000 enlisted men were built. On November 29, 1943 Seabees 3rd Brigade, 12th Regiment and setup their headquarters at Ladava and commanded all Seabees in the area. In January 1944 the 528th CBMU arrived and finished the headquarters. During 1945, Ladava closed and salvagable materials were removed from the area for shipment to more forward bases.

Gahora Bay
Located a half mile west of Ladava. Anchorage used by the U.S. Navy (USN). During 1943, USN 84th Construction Battalion "Seabees" based at Ladava constructed shore facilities bordering Gahra Bay.
