Location Lat 5° 32' 7" Long 146° 9' 7" E Mindiri is located inland from the north coast of New Guinea. Today, located in Rai Coast District of Madang Province in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Wartime History On March 5, 1944 U.S. Army soldiers made an amphibious landing at Yalan Plantation without opposition roughly 10 miles from Mindiri. Ashore, this force moved both east and west. On March 7, 1944 they captured Bibi (Ribi) leaving Mindiri cut off by coastal trails. On March 8, 1944 Mindiri was captured and expanded the American perimeter to 40 miles west of Saidor. Today Between 2008–2011, the Ramu Nickel built the Basamuk Refinery to the west of Mindiri connected by a pipeline westward then inland to the Kurumbukari Mine.
