Location
Opi village is located on a peninsula on the south side of the mouth of the Opi River on the north coast of New Guinea. To the north is Ambasi and beyond Cape Ward Hunt and to the south is the mouth of the Kumusi River. Prewar and during the Pacific War part of the Northern District in the Territory of Papua. Today located in Oro Bay Rural LLG in Ijivitari District of Oro Province in Papua New Guinea (PNG).

Wartime History
On February 21, 1944 offshore P-47D Thunderbolt 42-22941 pilot 2nd Lt Samuel C. McFarland ditched and afterwards he swam to the beach at Opi and was rescued and returned to duty.
