Location Lat 4° 17' 60S Long 152° 13' 0E Raluana is located to the west of Raluana Point (Schulze Point) on an inverted "V" shaped outcropping known as Ralauna Point on the Gazelle Peninsula of New Britain. Also spelled Ralauna and Ralauna Point. Borders Blanche Bay to the east and Karavia Bay to the west and Simpson Harbor and Rabaul to the north. The Kokopo-Rabaul road connects Raluana with Karavi to the east and Raburua to the west. Between 1884–1914 part of Deutsch Neu Guinea (German New Guinea) until September 1914. Prewar and during the Pacific War part of the Territory of New Guinea. Today located in East New Britain Province in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Wartime History After midnight of January 23, 1942 the Japanese Army "South Seas Detachment" built around 144th Infantry Regiment landed and several places around the Rabaul including Raluana Point. During the war, Japanese built a coastal defense gun battery at this location. Occupied by the Japanese for the duration of the Pacific War.
