Location
Lat 5° 34' 56S Long 148° 19' 55E Sag Sag is located on the coast of New Britain. Prewar, an Episcopal mission
was established at this location with a sawmill.
Wartime History
During 1943, used by the Japanese as a staging point between bases on New Britain and New Guinea. Barges would hide at this location during daylight hours before crossing to New Guinea at night. On January 8, 1944 5th Air Force fighters strafed a sawmill at Sag Sag.

Sag Sag Agulupella Trail
A
trail ran east-west from Sag Sag to Agulupella and Natamo
Point. After
the discovery of the trail, a composite company from the United States Marine Corps (USMC)
7th Marines commanded by Captain Parish landed at Sag Sag, and advanced
inland along the track.
