Location Lat 9° 4' 45S Long 149° 19' 20E Tufi Harbor borders Tufi on Cape Nelson on the north coast of New Guinea. Prewar and during the Pacific War located in Northern District (Northern Province) in the Territory of Papua. Today part of Oro Province in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Wartime History During the Pacific War, the Australia New Guinea Administrative Unit (ANGAU) established a station at Tufi. Later, the area was developed by the U.S. Navy (USN) into Tufi PT Boat Base for use by PT Boats. Today The former base is part of Tufi Dive Resort and the Regional Center. Tufi PT Boat Base Established at the ANGAU Station at Tufi. PT-67 Sunk March 17, 1943 burning due to accidental fuel fire. PT-119 Sunk March 17, 1943 burning due to accidental fuel fire. Australian Ship AS16 Sunk March 17, 1943 burning due to accidental fuel fire. PT-113 Grounded August 8, 1943 afterwards abandoned. At 18:45, PT's 67 and 119 were alongside dock at Advance Base, having completed fueling, preparatory to night's operation.
