Location Lat 5° 10' 0S Long 145° 45' 0E Yelbeck is located inland from the north coast of New Guinea. To the south is Alexishafen. Prewar and during the Pacific War located in the Madang District of the Territory of New Guinea. Today located in Ambenob Rural LLG, Madang District, Madang Province in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Prewar Prewar, the Catholic Church established Yelbeck Catholic Mission with a wooden church at this location. The wooden church survived the Japanese occupation and Allied bombing. During the Japanese occupation of the area, locals hid the statue of The Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ and hid to protect the statue. On May 18, 1944 occupied by the Australian Army 35th Infantry Battalion, A Company, No. 9 Platoon that returned the statue to the alter.
