Location Lat 50° 22' 60N Long 116° 31' 0E Borzya is located located at an elevation of 2,509' / 764m on the Borzya River in Far Eastern of Russia. Borders the Trans-Siberian Railway. To the northwest 349km away is Chita. In Russian spelled Борзя. Between 1922–1991 known as the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR, Soviet Union). Between 1991 to 2008 located in Chita Oblast. Since March 1, 2008 part of Zabaykalsky Krai in the Federal District of Far Eastern of Russia. History During 1899, a settlement was first established at this location with the construction of the Trans-Siberian Railway. By 1900, the settlement around Borzya railway station was officially founded as Borzya. Wartime History During May 1939 to September 1939 during the Battle of Khalkin Gol / Nomonhan Incident, Borzya was the nearest railroad station on the Trans-Siberian Railway to the battlefield area 700km away and became a logistical base for the Red Army during the undeclared border war. Today During 1950, Borzya officially became a town and was the headquarters for the Russian 36th Army.
