Location Lat 7° 45' 0S Long 156° 40' 0E Mbava Island is located to the west of Vella Lavella. To the northeast is Turovilu Island. To the south is Wilson Srait and Ranongga Island. Wartime spelling "Baga Island". Wartime History It is unknown if the Japanese occupied or maintained a garrion on Baga Island. During the New Zealand Army occupation of Vella Lavella, 37 Battalion was transported from Maravari on the east coast of Vella Lavella around the southern tip of the island via Wilson Strait and between Baga Island before landing at Mundi Mundi on the northwest coast of Vella Lavella.
