Location Lat 8° 34' 0S Long 157° 52' 60E Regi is located on the southeastern coast of New Georgia Islands (New Georgia Group) in Western Province in the Solomon Islands. Seven miles to the west is Viru Harbor and to the northeast is Nono and Segi (Seghe). Wartime History On June 27, 1943 at 4:00pm after landing at nearby Segi, U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) 1st Raider Regiment, 4th Marine Raider Battalion commander Col Currin radioed Admiral Fort requesting permission land at Regi with Company O and Company P to begin the operation a day early, instead of waiting for the next day as planned. On June 27, 1943 during the night, U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) 1st Raider Regiment, 4th Marine Raider Battalion under the command of Col. Michael S. Currin used rubber boats to paddle from Segi (Seghe) to Lambeti Plantation near Regi then advanced inland to the north crossing the Akuru River then the Mohi River while fighting rear guard actions. Originally, the operation was scheduled for June 28, 1943 Company P was scheduled to land at Nono village, a few miles west of Kennedy's station at Segi (Seghe). Currin was then to advance through the jungle to attack Tetemara on June 30, 1943 at 7:00am and capture the Japanese coastal guns reported at that location. Afterwards, destroyer-transports USS Kilty (APD-15) and USS Crosby (APD-17) would then enter the harbor and land a 355 man occupation force consisting of Company B and half of Company D of the 103rd Infantry Regiment, Battery E (less one platoon) of the 70th Coast Artillery (Anti-aircraft) Battalion, 20th Naval Construction Battalion (20th NCB) "Seabees" and a naval base unit.
