Location
The Paracel Islands is an archipelago in the South China Sea (West Philippine Sea). In Chinese known as the Xisha Islands (West Sand Archipelago). In Vietnamese known as Hoàng Sa Archipelago (Yellow Sand Archipelago). Includes the Bombay Reef.
Battle of the Paracel Islands
On January 19, 1974 engagement between China and South Vietnam near the Paracel Islands and was a Chinese victory occupying the portion controlled by South Vietnam. Since 1974, all of the Paracel Islands are under de facto administration by China.
