Lat 8° 58' 0S Long 125° 2' 60E  Balibo is located at an elevation of 1,797' / 547m near the north coast of Timor Island near the border between East Timor and West Timor.

Balibo Fort (Balibo Forte)
Built in the 1700s by the Portuguese as a fortress at the eastern end of Portuguese Timor. During 1975 this fortress was part of several battles during the Indonesian occupation of East Timor. Between 1999-2002 used by U. N. Peacekeeping forces as a base during International Force East Timor (INTERFET) operations. In 2016 converted into a hotel.
