Location Uman Island is located in Truk Lagoon in Chuuk State (Truk) in the Federated States of Micronesia. To the northwest is Fefan Island. To the north is Dublon Island (Tonoas, Tonowas), northwest is Fefan Island and to the west is Tsis Island. Directly to the south is Atokin Island. To the southeast is Faleet Island, Faneu Island, Fananan Island, Ozen Island, Onnarem Island and Meryberyb Island. Wartime History 4th Civil Engineering Department and Naval Construction Departments dug trenches, caves and built roads on the islands. Only about six buildings associated with the radio station were built. 600 Men of the 49th Naval Guard Unit were stationed on the island too. The Forth Naval Communications Corps and its mission of maintenance and operation of the radio and radar station on the island. A torpedo boat station was created later in the war.
