Location Lat 47° 34' 2N Long 122° 37' 57W Bremerton is located on the Kitsap Peninsula in Kitsap County in Washington State in the United States. Borders Puget Sound and beyond to the east is Seattle. Puget Sound Naval Shipyard In 1891 Puget Sound Naval Shipyard was established by the U.S. Navy (USN) to build and service warships. During 1901 became Navy Yard Puget and during World War I built sub chasers, submarines, minesweepers, tugs and ammunition ships and thousands of small boats. During World War II, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard was primarily used to repair battle damage to U.S. Navy and Allied warships. Repaired USS California (BB-44) between June 1942 until January 1944 after being refloated from Pearl Harbor. Repaired USS Bunker Hill (CV-17) damaged by kamikazes between May 1945 until September 1945. Still in use today by the U.S. Navy as Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility (PSNS & IMF).
