Location
Lat 17° 43' 60S Long 168° 19' 0E  Port Vila is located on at the southwest corner of Efaté Island in Shefa Province in Vanuatu (New Hebrides). Also known as "Vila". Sometimes incorrectly spelled "Villa" in wartime references. Also spelled "Port-Vila".

Wartime History
During April 1942, U.S. Army 24th Infantry (Negro) were posted on Efate to provide defense to free up other American soldiers for the Guadalcanal campaign.

Today
Port Vila is the capital of Vanuatu and the largest city in Vanuatu.
