Royal New Zealand Air Force – Missing Persons Investigation Unit
RNZAF MPIU
The Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) Missing Persons Investigation Unit (MPIU) investigated New Zealand airmen and air crews Missing In Action (MIA) and detained as Prisoners Of War (POW).
MAIU
The RNZAF also had a Missing Aircrew Investigation Unit (MAIU), it is unclear if this was the same unit or a prior name for the same unit. During September 1945, MAIU was based at Jacquinot Bay on New Britain.
MPIU
During September 1945, MPIU established their headquarters at Rabaul near the Tunnel Hill Road turnoff. The staff including S/L Denys Hamilton, F/L E. Muir and F/L W. Ingram.
