James Lansdale holding a fragment of A6M3 Zero 3028 and photograph of the same Zero January 1943
The fragment is from the rear fueslage of A6M3 Model 32 Zero 3028 Tail V-187 and is a sample of exterior gray-green paint with a kanji painted in black from the fuselage Houkoku Dai 870 (Patriotic Presentation Number 870) and is inside a plastic bag to protect it from damage. This sample contains one of the best examples of the overall gray-green color painted on early Zeros. This fragment was recovered by Allied personnel from the fuselage of the Zero captured at Buna Airfield.
