Robert Livingstone

Robert Livingstone learned to fly straight out of school, intending to make it a career, but lost three years to conscription into the Australian Army including a year in Vietnam. He changed direction on return and trained as an Air Traffic Controller. He worked as a Tower controller in the Sydney area, becoming SATCO Bankstown and Camden before finishing his career at Sydney International, taking early retirement just after 9/11. Throughout his time in ATC Bob wrote for various aviation magazines and book. At present, he is President of the Aviation Historical Society of Australia (Queensland).
His father joined the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) in WWII, trained as a celestial navigator and flew as a crew member aboard Royal Air Force (RAF) Liberators from bases in Ceylon (Sri Lanka) with 160 (GR) Squadron flying missions over the Bay of Bengal and Indian Ocean.
Bob is primarily a B-24 researcher who writes on aviation subjects for magazines in Australia and the UK, and authored two books, Under the Southern Cross (1998) and Strike Back (2005), B-24 Liberator: Combat Photographs from the European Theater of Operations (2024), B-24 Liberator: Combat Photographs from the Mediterranean Theater of War (2024). Livingstone is a researcher on B24BestWeb.com and his own website b-24.weebly.com. He was the B-24 advisor for the Hollywood film Unbroken (2014). In addition, he has written articles for Warbirds Worldwide (UK), Air Forces Monthly (UK), Flightpath (AUS), Aeroplane (UK), Australian Flying (AUS), The Aviation Historian (UK).
