Wartime History
He enlisted in the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) with serial number 260092 and was promoted to the rank of Wing Commander and was the Commanding Officer (C.O.) of No. 30 Squadron.
On August 16, 1943 lost is Beaufighter A19-130 pilot WGCDR Clarence P. Glasscock on a check-out flight to test fuel consumption and orientation, suffered an engine failure and ditched off Fergusson Island.
On September 19, 1943 lost is Beaufighter A19-133 pilot WGCDR Clarence P. Glasscock on a mission against Hoskins Airfield and was hit by anti-aircraft fire and crashed. fter being hit, Glasscock was heard to say over the radio to his observer, Cain: "Laddie, you better get over here in the cockpit, I've been hit." When this aircraft failed to return it was declared Missing In Action (MIA).
Recovery of Remains
During 1946, the crash of Beaufighter A19-133 was discovered and the remains of Glasscock and observer Cain.
Memorials
Glasscock was officially declared dead on September 19, 1943. After the recovery of remains in 1946, both were buried at Lae War Cemetery in joint grave AA, D, 3-4.
Awards
Glasscock earned Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC).
