1st Lt. Harry W. Townsend helicopter pilot with 25th Infantry Division "Tropic Lightning"
On November 13, 1951 pilot RF-51D Mustang 44-84649 / 365 damaged by anti-aircraft fire and bailed out. Within minutes of landing, he Grobler was rescued by H-13 helicopter pilot 1st Lt. Harry W. Townsend and flown to safety. On the ground, the pair were photographed shaking hands and standing together. Townsend who was a paratrooper and pilot gave Grobler his paratrooper wings. Grobler made Townsend an honorary member of No. 2 Squadron (South African).
