Background
On August 26, 1941 constituted as the 25th Infantry Division (25th ID) in the U.S. Army. On October 1, 1941 activated at Schofield Barracks on Oahu in Hawaii. Formed with personnel from the 27th Infantry Regiment and 35th Infantry Regiment of the U.S. Army Hawaiian Division. Nicknamed "Tropic Lightning". Their logo is a yellow lightning bolt inside a scarlet shield, the colors are the traditional colors of Hawaiian royalty. The logo was dubbed the electric strawberry. The 25th Infantry Division Museum (Tropical Lightning Museum) is located at Schofield Barracks.

161st Infantry Regiment "First Washington"
The 161st Infantry Regiment nicknamed "First Washington".
Background
In 1921, the 161st Infantry Regiment was reconstituted in the Washington State National Guard as part of the 41st Infantry Division (41st ID). Nicknamed "First Washington". In early 1941 wen the 41st Infantry Division (41st ID) was reconfigured as a triangular division, the 161st Infantry Regiment excess and ordered to the Philippines and prepared for overseas deployment. On December 7, 1941 at the start of the Pacific War the 161st Infantry Regiment in San Francisco and instead directed to Hawaii as reinforcements. On August 3, 1942 assigned to the 25th Infantry Division (25th ID) "Tropic Lightning".
SSgt Angelo Viale served in the Philippines earned the earned the Distinguished Service Cross (DSC) near Kapintalan.
T/4 Laverne Parrish earned the Medal of Honor posthumously for aiding wounded January 18 and 24, 1945.
