Location
Lat 35.663249 Long 139.698088  The Tokyo Military Prison was located in Shibuya west of Tokyo in the Kantō Region of Honshū in Japan. Also known as simply Tokyo Prison or Shibuya Military Prison. To the southeast is Shibuya Station.

Wartime History
During World War II, operated by the Imperial Japanese Army (IJA) Kenpeitai (Kempei-Tai). During 1945, Allied Prisoners Of War (POW) were detained at Tokyo Military Prison. By early May 1945, a total of 62 American POWs were detained in cell block 4.

During the night of May 25, 1945 to May 26, 1945 a total of 464 B-29 Superfortress heavy bombers dropped incendiary bombs on urban area of Tokyo causing huge fires that burned large urban areas and burned Tokyo Military Prison. During the fire and the aftermath all the Allied POWs perished.

Group Burial
After the bombing raid and fire, the dead bodies were buried in a group burial trench at a depth of 6' marked by two white crosses. Postwar, U.S. Army exhumed the remains, placing them into mattress covers and transported them to Yokohama. Later, the identified remains were transported to the United States for permanent burial. The unidentified remains were transported to Manila American Cemetery for burial as unknowns.

Today
The former Tokyo Prison building area is located at 5 Udagawachō Shibuya City, Tokyo 150-0042. Today, the location is a tax office, grade school and playing field.
