Location
Lat 0° 1' 55S Long 109° 19' 30E  Pontianak is located near the coast of West Kalimantan Province (Kalimantan Barat) in southern Borneo. Also known as Pontijanak, Kutha Pontianak, Pontianakas, Kota Pontianak, Kuta Pontianak, Kutha Pontianak, Pontianakas, Kota Pontianak and Kuta Pontianak.

Wartime History
During early 1942, occupied by the Japanese. Starting in early June 1945 until early August 1945 bombed by American aircraft to neutralize the area. Pontianak was occupied by the Japanese until the official surrender of Japan.

American missions against Pontijanak
June 2, 1945–August 1, 1945

On October 16, 1945 the Australian Army 2/33rd Battalion under the command of Lt. Colonel T. W. R. Cotton plus attached personnel occupied Pontianak and read a proclamation at a ceremony around a flagpole that the residents were liberated by the Allied. A parade was held with the Australian solders marching under a white welcome arch built by the Chinese Nationalist community.
