49th Fighter Group Aces of the Pacific Aviation Elite Units 14 This book details the 49th Fighter Group (49th FG) the South West Pacific Area (SWPA). The cover depicts P-38H "Charlcie Jeann" 42-66516 piloted by Captain Watkins during air combat on July 28, 1943 over the north coast of New Britain when Watkins claimed three Oscars shot down. The caption inside incorrectly identify's the aircraft as P-38G Lightning 42-12882 [sic]. This serial number was assigned to the 1st Fight Group and crashed in England on January 13, 1943.
