Atomic Magazine Essential Guide to Retro Culture An interesting publication, with high production values and quality of writing. It boast itself as the "Essential Guide to Retro Culture" and that it is. Just like stepping back to a pulp magazine of the 1940's, each magazine is colorful and well prepared. Each issue features pin-up girl centerfolds, modeling retro fashions. In the case of the winter 2001 issue, "Romancing the 1940's" and "WWII Sweater Fashions" in the Fall 2000 issue. The articles span a wide range of topics, of interest are three part section on WWII veterans who earned the Medal of Honor, The Winter 2001 issue has an introduced by author Stephen Ambrose, and a detailed interview with Jacklyn Lucas, USMC, the youngest Medal of Honor recipient for his actions on Iwo Jima. The magazines account is comprehensive and well written. The Fall 2000 issue has a comprehensive interview with ETO Medal recipient, Stanley Woktusik, introduced by James Bradley. Other interesting sections are about popular culture of the war era, like the best war movies, and 60 years of the USO. Back issues as well as complete subscriptions are available. Recommended issues are the Fall 2000 and Winter 2001. Review by Justin Taylan Return to Book Reviews | Add a review or submit for review Last Updated |
