The Grim Reapers
At Work In The Pacific Theater
The 3rd Attack Group of the 5th Air Force

During 2002, in retirement, John "Jock" P. Henebry wrote his autobiography of his experiences during World War II including his service with the 3rd Bombardment Group (3rd BG) in the South West Pacific Area (SWPA). Henebry was involved with the conversion of the B-25 Mitchell from a medium bomber into the strafer variant that was implemented by "Pappy" Gunn. On March 3, 1943 he participated in the Battle of The Bismark Sea. On November 2, 1943 he led the 90th Bombardment Squadron on a low level bombing and strafing mission against Rabaul.
