Kearby's Thunderbolts
The 348th Fighter Group in World War II

The 348th Fighter Group (348th FG) flew the P-47D Thunderbolt in the South West Pacific Area (SWPA) during World War II. The group's first Commanding Officer (C.O.) Colonel Neel E. Kearby used the heavy fighter effectively in New Guinea and in air combat over Wewak on New Guinea, and Cape Gloucester on New Britain and earned the Medal of Honor.

Aside from Kearby, the 348th FG had many other aces included William "Dinghy" Dunham, Bob Rowland, Bill Banks, John Moore, Samuel V. Blair, and George A. Davis, Jr., would later earned the Medal of Honor during the Korean War. Ending the war in P-51 Mustangs, the 348th ranged over the Japanese homeland.

Another version of this book with the same title was published as Kearby's Thunderbots: The 348th Fighter Group in World War II (1997) published by Schiffer as a hardcover book of 300 pages with an expanded text and more photographs.
