Les Alles Francaises 1939-1945 06 - L'aviation de Vichy (2e Partie) This softcover book series is devoted to World War II aviation history, written in French. Each book covers a different era of French aviation. Book 06 is the second part of the series coverage of the Vichy era of French history is still controversial in France today. Kudos to the authors for choosing to cover this fascinating topic, in one of the few books available on the subject. The book covers aircraft production under the Germans, building some French and German designs in France. Also, Vichy in the tropics: Somolia, Martinique, Operation Torch and French aircraft in Italian service. Pacific related subjects include: Pages 23 - 31 of the book also covers "Operation Ironclad". Vichy regime administered Madagascar. From May 5 - November 6, 1942 Operation Ironclad was a British operation against Vichy French territory, was launched. This operation was known as the Battle of Madagascar. The British feared that Japanese forces might use Madagascar as a base and thus cripple British trade and communications in the Indian Ocean. As a result, Madagascar was invaded by British and Commonwealth forces. The island fell relatively quickly and the operation ended in victory for the British. But had a number interesting battles, including the bombing of Diego Suarez (Antsiranana). Pages 61 - 69 includes part two of the Indochina (Vietnam) covering 1941 - 1945. The Vichy regime continued to fly their own aircraft in Japanese occupied Indochina, in Vichy French markings. Meticulously researched, each issue is rich with World War II photos, beautiful aircraft profiles, maps and charts. Each issue goes beyond the ordinary archives photos, working directly with veterans and artist to present new history and photography.
