Scootin' Thunder Written by Beth Houser, daughter of Lt. Robert Houser co-pilot of B-24D "Scootin' Thunder" 42-40100 assigned to the 13th Air Force, 5th Bombardment Group, 394th Bomb Squadron and later the 72nd Bombardment Squadron. This book tells the story of this bomber and her crew of ten flying forty-five combat missions in the South Pacific. During 1943, operated from Guadalcanal. The men serving in this group were also known as the "Cactus Air Force". These crews flew the longest unescorted missions over in the Solomon Islands. Many of their accomplishments were ignored and overlooked because the command was under the jurisdiction of the Navy.
